Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search box is sent to the third-party company that supplies that tool. The provider processes the query and returns its result. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email us, we retain the message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal server and analytics logs may collect technical facts about a visit, including:
- Device IP address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- Referring page or website, when available
- Date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. We and our analytics services may use them to measure traffic, understand page use, and spot problems. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, though some functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Collected data may be used for the following operating purposes:
- Keeping pages available and responsive
- Passing a search request to the selected outside provider
- Measuring which content readers use
- Finding errors, abuse, and security problems
- Displaying advertising that may reflect user interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not create, keep, sell, or compile a database of personal Spartanburg County criminal records. Our content describes access routes such as the Sheriff’s Office, Clerk of Court, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a third party’s criminal-history file.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by that company’s privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices rather than this policy. We do not control those practices. Review the provider’s terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Spartanburg County Sheriff, the South Carolina Judicial Branch, SLED, local courts, or another service. Once a reader leaves this site, the destination’s privacy policy controls. Advertising services may also use their own systems to measure activity across websites for ad selection.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be shared with:
- A search provider that receives a query
- Analytics vendors that measure use and performance
- Advertising networks that serve ads
- A court, law-enforcement agency, or government body acting under valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard technical and organizational safeguards for the data we control. No internet service can promise absolute security, so these measures reduce risk but cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that such data was submitted, we will remove it promptly.
Your Data Rights
South Carolina’s Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code Title 30, Chapter 4, governs access to qualifying government records and does not turn this private site into a public agency. Sections 23-3-115 and 23-3-120 separately govern SLED criminal-history searches, dissemination, and repository reporting. For personal information that we control, a user may:
- Ask what personal information we hold about that user
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion when retention is not legally required
- Opt out of processing where an applicable law supplies that choice
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy as our practices or legal duties change. A new version becomes effective when posted here with its updated date.
